Eco-Chic Melissa Campana Slippers

melissa-campana-eco-slippers

Although the green movement is growing across North America, the environmentally concerned often find themselves the victims of stereotypes. Gone are the days when those with an interest in sustainability are restricted to wearing Birkenstocks, clothing with a multitude of previous owners, and not washing their hair. If that’s your thing, more power to you – but for those fashionistas out there who fear that going green means patchouli oil, bongos and the fashion that goes hand-in-hand, the good news is there are options available to ensure you look your best while fighting the planet one green fashion choice at a time. Izzit Tested: Radar Pitching Trainer

radar-trainer-logo

The Radar Pitching Trainer (RPT) is a sophisticated high-tech upgrade to the old-school throwback we all had in our backyards as kids.  After all, baseball stats and other training techniques have gone scientific so why not drag the throwback into the 21st century.

The trainer calculates pitch speed, keeps track of pitch-count, strikeouts and walks, and is made for both baseball and softball pitchers.  Ball speed is calculated by the Radar Pitching Trainer’s sonic radar, while other stats are calculated by proprietary software in an “electronic umpire” – so it’s a bit like John Hirschbeck and Hal from 2001 had a baby that sits in a removable plastic box that’s attached to the back of the trainer’s steel frame.  Thankfully, there’s no creepy voice or attitude with the RPT. Fella Flops: Izzit Picks Eco Friendly Men’s Fip-Flops for Summer

It’s officially the summer season, time to upgrade with some eco-friendly flip-flops fellas.

There are few product categories with a richer assortment of greenified choices than the humble – and not so humble – pantheon of flip-flops.  The flip-flop making world seems to have decided that making flips that make the world flop aint at-one with the flop-makers ethos – hence all the choices.  Though be forewarned, gone are the days of the $15 flop.  Without further delay – some of our favorite guy-flop choices for the summer:

Keen Waimea H2: $50keen-waimea-h2-m-300

Whether you’re just afraid of the ol’ stub, or you’re just recovering from this seasons blackened toe-bang debilitation from way too many big days at Alta or Jay, these comfy Keen’s will do you right.  As with all Keen shoes, you need to get used to their unique style.  Thankfully, the Waimea H2 also comes in a more subdued all-black version, and with uppers made from recycled bike tires, and a manufacturer that’s committed to Mama E, you can feel good about the buy.

Reef Greenwall:  $46reef-greenwall-300

What they’ve got: Organic cotton upper, water-based/non-toxic adhesives, recycled content in the footbed, and the comfort that comes from a company that is al about flip-flops.  What they’re missing?  You guessed it – the bottle opener on the sole.  Don’t they realize that since we’re greener than the rest, we’ll be sure to pocket-then-recycle that cap rather than drop it on the beech?  I think we’ve earned the bottle opener.

All that being said, the Greenwall’s casual sophistication will shout ‘I can pull off linen pants after dark’ to the ladies, so you’ll probably be drinking wine by candlelight anyway. Read more »

Knu To You Kiddo

knu-redball-rocker

This recently reintroduced reproduction red rocker is ragin’?  If your toddler could alliterate, this is what she’d say.  Seriously.

Knu, a sustainably-focused modern furniture manufacturer in Michigan, has indeed introduced a reproduction of the 60′s classic kids rocker (predictably) called the Red Ball Rocker.  Which is to say they’ve restarted production of a very cool rocking-horse substitute that eschews the long horse face and faux fur for a gleaming red ball and chic design.  They’ve also replaced the potential ‘made for children by children’ vibe with ‘made in the USA from FSC certified materials by a company that geniunely cares about the environment’ vibe.  So how ’bout that pardner. Pretty nice indeed ma’am. Read more »

Where’s Your Pocket Projector McFly?

pocket_projectors1

As a guy who’s spent a good chunk of his career running through airports with suitcase, laptop and other assorted heavy stuff, I (and my back) find myself a little jealous every time I come across another device that used to weigh ten pounds, came in a cumbersome case and now fits in the palm of your hand or jacket pocket.  Ten years to late.

These days, business travelers can seemingly get away with just a pocket full of gizmos.  Most important laptop functionality has been replaced by a iPhones, Blackberries or some other tiny genius phone.  And now this – the world has recently been inundated with tiny, ultra-portable presentation projectors, like the Dell109S and Optoma’s tiny Pico. Burp Confidently with Burp Armor

burparmor-logo-skulls

‘I don’t always burp babies, but when I do, I prefer to use Burp Armor.’   I fully expect that Dos Equis’ Most Interesting Man in the World would use Burp Armor if he needed to burp a baby. After all, the guy wears a tux almost everywhere he goes.

On a personal note, let me say that I’ve caught baby vomit with many things in my day, but never with anything as cool as a Burp Armor organic burp cloth. This is true – both parts. Burp Armor is cool. And yes, I’ve caught a lot of vomit in my day. I’m like the Jason Varitek of baby vomit. I think I give babies reflux just by holding them. Read more »

Grab Joe Wash!

wash-with-joe1If I loved coffee any more, I’d bathe in it!  Wait?  That’s possible?

Sure is. Turns out, coffee and caffeine provide a number of benefits when applied to your skin.  And the good folks that make Wash With Joe Coffeemint Body Wash have done all the hard work of grinding and brewing and soapifying for you.  All you have to do is Wash With Joe.

According to Joe’s makers, the combination of ingredients in the body wash help to smooth and tighten skin, protect against UV rays, and keep the you from getting too smelly.  They also point out that coffee’s antioxidants have been shown to provide strong carcinogen protection.  Too boot, they even claim Wash With Joe can help ‘smooth the buttocks’ – and who couldn’t use some buttock smoothing (mild boot-trunk pun intended). That’s Some Smart Glass: Recycled Jewelry for Mom

Now that's some smart glass!

Looking for a unique, cool, funky, not-too-expensive gift for the lady in your life? For say…Mother’s Day? Izzit’s got you covered in two words: Smart Glass.

Before going too far, let me explain the measuring stick by which I judge a great gift to the women in my life. Like the guy who invented it, the method is pretty simple.  I use a basic ‘friend-of-lady ooh-and-ahh scale’ approach – where said lady can be wife, girlfriend, mom, etc. Read more »
