Fishing for Ways to Protect our Ocean(a)s

You know that Izzit loves to connect you with the coolest, most innovative and sustainably produced products on the market. Along with these product and brand connections, we think it’s super-important for consumers to learn more about the groups that work every day to improve our environment, certify the credibility of green-marketed products, and advance public knowledge of important sustainability issue.
To that end – here’s a little multi-faceted Holiday gift from us to you…and the oceans. More specifically, some knowledge for you, some support for our oceans, and something to put under the tree for a loved-one this season.
First, a bit of knowledge pour vous…
Oceana is a non-profit group focused solely to restoring our threatened oceans to their former state of abundance. The group was founded in 2001, (although its roots go back to the American Oceans Campaign founded by Ted Danson in 1987), and is the largest international organization that concentrates solely on ocean conservation, with a focus on directed campaigns that achieve measurable outcomes to impact ocean health. In less than a decade they have achieved numerous and lasting policy victories for marine life and habitats.
On Oceana’s website you can learn about the groups range initiatives – including their ‘January Jones is Afraid for Sharks’ campaign with the decidedly non-petulant actress of Betty Draper fame.
You can also help yourself to a helping of ocean-friendly lifestyle pointers, that include Oceana’s very cool and helpful wallet-ready seafood buying guide that will help you green-up trips to the grocery store and sushi joint alike. How’s that for a helpful freebie?
Oceana helped you – now you can help the ocean
As they have done the last few holiday seasons, Oceana is providing a unique and meaningful way to give to loved ones while raising important funds for Oceana’s campaigns to protect coral reefs, address climate change, protect sea creatures and maintain a healthy and abundant ocean.
When you support the marine creature virtual adoption campaign through Oceana’s website, you or a gift recipients will receive either a cookie cutter or plush toy of the animal you’ve adopted, along with an adoption certificate.
And you if you’re up for it, Oceana is offering a limited-edition Sea Turtle adoption kit that celebrates the efforts of 12-year-old sea turtle activist Casey Sokolovic. Included in the kit this year will be a 22-inch sea turtle plush toy along with a full compliment of extras – not to mention that inspiration you and your family will get from hearing Casey’s story.
