Unlike our little green Sasquatch Izzit, who legend has it was home schooled, it’s almost time for kiddies of all ages to get back to school and further their education. To help students do everything from staying organized to getting their lunches, books and other supplies to their temples of learning in an eco-sustainable way, IzzitGreen has found a bunch of cool, environmentally friendly school products from our partner BuyGreen.com. And as part of IzzitGreen’s efforts to help educate all youngsters, and through them hopefully their parents, Izzit will donate a portion of our proceeds from August 18th to August 25th, 2010 to help the non profit “e”inc. continue its mission of bringing environmental learning right into the classroom.
How about those cool back to school products? Keep reading →

The season is upon us! With spring solidly underway and summer just a couple of months off, it won’t be long before weddings start to fill up our weekends once again! This year, go green in style and show off just how sexy sustainability can be.

With the close of the Winter Olympics yesterday, I wanted to draw your attention to one of the coolest style stories that I learned about during the Games.
Roots is a clothing company that’s based firmly in Canada. It’s not an official sponsor of the games this year, although it has been in the past. There’s been a bit of controversy over the fact that the company has promoted patriotic athletic wear over the last few months, apparently in an attempt to conduct ambush marketing, but that’s all by-the-by in this story.

Gone are the days of itchy hemp and loose fitting tie-die, eco-conscious fashion is in and it’s pulling no punches. Valentines is the perfect time to highlight how and why sustainable fashion is going to be the sexiest thing of 2010:
1. Support On The Catwalk
2010 is the U.N.’s International Year of Biodiversity. To support the campaign, nearly 50 top designers from around the world contributed to a show and strutted their green stuff in Geneva in January. According to Lucas Assuncao of the U.N. Conference on Trade and Development, sustainable fashion is now pulling in between $150 million and $200 million in sales per year; “an increasingly significant chunk of the market”. Keep reading →

Ecoist is a company that creates and sells eco-friendly items primarily made from discarded product labels which are then recycled and turned into fashionable, functional and fun products that create conversation and look pretty neat too. Unlike some eco-friendly fashion companies, Ecoist doesn’t want people to buy their items just because they’re eco-friendly, they want them to buy them because they follow trends you’d see on celebrities or on the runways, AND they have the added bonus of minimal environmental impact. Wouldn’t you like to pick up a purse and be able to say, “it’s just like Victoria Beckham’s, but mine didn’t require a mortgage or take away a piece of my soul and morality because of it’s environmental impact”? Who says office wear has to be stuffy and boring? One of my former employers, that’s who. From the man’s style blazers, to the pantyhose in the non-air conditioned office in summer; there’s no way I could have introduced any alternative fashion into the office place. Designer Feral Childe certainly doesn’t follow the same beliefs, since not only have they introduced a new line of office appropriate wear that’s verging on contemporary, it’s also eco-friendly. There’s nothing more enjoyable than some sexy lingerie to turn up the heat in the relationship. But while you might be turning up the heat between the sheets, you might have forgotten to think about what impact your (or your man’s) favorite undies has had upon the environment in the manufacturing process. You deserve the opportunity to enjoy your underwear without the guilt of an un-eco-friendly conscious, and, in all fairness to your partner, that’s just not where your attention should be. But let’s face it, when the environment is at stake, it can be hard to feel romantic. The solution? Get your hands on sustainable lingerie that won’t distract you from business elsewhere…
Luxury Italian designers Cosabella, known for their ability to juggle sexy and comfortable, have introduced a new line of bamboo mix underwear. All the items are designed without seams or tags for a 100% hassle-free experience and the unique mix of materials will actively wick moisture away from your body. The bandeau bra is designed to be slipped on over the head with no fastenings required and can be teamed with any of the bottoms, from the feminine boy shorts to the daring low cover thong.
Lavit Lingerie is known for their unique and sexy designs and fabrics, but now they’re also adding sustainable to their repertoire with romantic bamboo underwear designs. The line is simple and sexy and, beyond the material they’re made of, their eco-friendliness will be taken even further, since the lingerie will come packaged in an organic raw cotton bag. Lavit will also donate 2% of the gross sales from the Hudson line to planting trees in the Brazilian rainforest, the native land of the sustainable designers.
In the meantime, for those who just can’t wait to get their hands on bamboo underwear; there’s Bamboo Clothes that offers a complete line of eco-friendly undergarments. While these many not be as sexy as those available from Lavit Lingerie, they’re practical and functional for men and women on the go. Bamboo Clothes sells women’s underwear in packages of three; and ladies can choose from tree different sustainable panty designs; the thong, low rise bikini, or high leg brief. For the gentlemen who want to get onboard with guilt-free, sustainable underwear, there are also bamboo boxer shorts.
Bamboo is quickly taking off as one of the most popular materials used for sustainable products. It’s the world’s fastest growing plant, which requires no replanting since as a grass and not a tree new shoots are constantly forming to facilitate its growth. There are some emerging concerns over the chemicals used in the refinement of bamboo fibers. We recommend reading around the topic yourself and always buying organic if you’re concerned about toxins in the clothes that you wear.

Paper clothing may seem like a designer’s error where the designer neglected to translate pattern to fabric, but think again, because Tyvek clothing, the same material used for mailing envelopes and house wrap, is rocking the fashion world in a very big way. Tyvek clothing by House-Wear, is a sustainable, recyclable, eco-stylish fashion line that minimizes environmental impact, increases the lifespan of clothing, and supports the American economy to boot.
