In the words of Dr. Seuss, whose birthday happens to be today, “It is fun to have fun, But you have to know how.” What great advice! And even better, what great logic to apply to one’s shopping habits. Personally I like fun stuff, simple as that, but what I really, really enjoy is fun, sustainable stuff! So in honor of Dr. Seuss’s birthday, and his rather thought provoking writings, I’ve put together a little list of fun, bold and sustainable make-up for you to check out.

The Bold, Rebellious, Edgy Look

For creating bold, rebellious, edgy looks I found a clever little make-up kit by Bare Escentuals: bareMinerals Tutorials – Rocker Eye. This funky little eye kit instructs you, in simple steps, on how to achieve a rocker eye make-up style. The detachable tip card is the perfect cheat sheet. And you can feel good creating intense, feminine, rocker chick eyes with a product formulated without parabens, sulfates, synthetic fragrances, synthetic dyes, petro-chemicals, or phthalates. You can check this kit out at Ulta Beauty, and while your there check out it’s reviews – “Simply smashing” to “Love it”. Not a bad rap for a little rocker eye fun.

The Famous Smoky Eye

If the rocker eye look isn’t your style, Bare Escentuals also makes bareMinerals Tutorials – Smoky Eye. This make-up kit was formulated to create the famous going out smoky eye look. Just like the Rocker Eye, Smoky Eye comes with a detachable tip card that makes the perfect cheat sheet. Bare Escentuals has created a one-of-a-kind, patent-pending brush with a fresh color pairing of bareMinerals for this look. The only bummer, reviews on this one aren’t as high as Rocker Eye. So if you were between the two, I would go with Rocker Eye.

For the Indecisive Shopper

A great solution for an indecisive shopper, or make-up queen into different looks, is Urban Decay’s Sustainable Shadow Box. This box holds ten of Urban Decays best selling eye shadows, a cruelty-free eye shadow brush, and a travel size bottle of eye shadow primer. The eye shadows are arranged in coordinating duos, but can be mixed to provide an endless combination of looks. You can apply the shadows wet or dry with the help of their cruelty-free brush. The lacquered case is bamboo, the eye shadows are nestled in a tray made of recycled paper, and the clear outer PET box is recyclable. The only con with this product (and believe me it’s a big one) is the difficulty in figuring out what is in the shadows ingredient wise. The box itself is a pretty nice green catch, but the lack of shadow ingredients gets you thinking. Although they do claim to have very few binders that generally contain some gnarly stuff. And if you aren’t into a bit of sparkle and shimmer, this shadow box probably isn’t for you.

Wipe That Make-Up Away

At the end of the day you can wipe that make-up away with a pre-moistened Pomegranate Cleansing & Make-Up Removing Wipe by Korres. This is a pretty sweet (yes, you can’t get out of here without one pun) wipe that will remove dirt, make-up and oil from your face and eyes while refreshing your skin. These wipes also eliminate impurities, tighten pores, and offer antioxidant protection. And on top of that, Korres is always formulated without parabens, sulfates, synthetic dyes, petro-chemicals, phthalates, GMO, and triclosan. Not bad for a little clean up action. So in the words of the great Dr Seuss, please keep in mind, “It is fun to have fun, But you have to know how.”
